Everyone did as he saw fit – (Judges 17:6)

After the time of Joshua, there appeared a spiritual dryness in Israel and everyone did as it pleased him. Many turned away from the living God and followed the fashion of the timed by following after false gods of the neighbouring nations and their influences turned the people of God to a godless nation. There was no-one to guide them Idol worship was a fashion of the times. The people were not afraid to do wrong repeatedly and did what pleased them as we see in Judges 17. The Levite Priest was also influenced to turn away and be a priest of Micah who actually made an Ephod and a shrine at his home.

A sense of spiritual dryness may also come into our lives but we have to recognize our shortcomings and understand that it has not resulted from any physical conditions, but from our disobedience and repent.

As the saying goes, “He who does not obey the lighthouse crashes on the rocks”. If we do not submit our lives and be obedient to the commands of Jesus Christ, we will have to settle for a barren and insecure existence.

May the heavenly father help us to correct our shortcomings by recognizing and avoiding them when it matters rather than allowing it to be swept under the rug and suffering the consequences of our errors.
